I enjoy reading comic books and I also love to create paper dolls, so it seemed to make sense (at least to me), to combine the two hobbies. As a child, some of my favorite paper dolls were storybook characters and, with my brothers, we used to build whole sets of dolls to stage elaborate scenes. Medieval knights and skeleton warriors ~ inspired by Jason and the Argonauts ~ were some of our favorite, along with a legion of Star Wars characters. We also did an entire set of 101 Dalmatians, complete with a getaway truck to haul them.
More recently, I've began creating paper dolls for the characters in my serial novel, Reconstruction. If you enjoy dolls and would like to see more, feel free to visit my other site: 19th Century Paper Dolls. The dolls here are made to be enjoyed: please feel free to download them and print them out for your own personal use. If you're wondering where to find the clothing for the dolls, it is on the blogs, interfiled with the commentary throughout each series and tagged by character name. Some notes about their clothing is provided as well. |
These dolls are by no means comprehensive representations of the characters or their costumes over the long haul. I generally do not include very minor variations on the same general outfit or continuity problems in which a set of clothing seems to change from issue to issue. This things may be interesting enough to note, but likely won't bear repetition in the drawing.
Also, with the exception of the Batman characters, I tried to design the dolls without emulating any particular artist. Some artists drew characters wildly different from issue to issue (changing their hairstyles, costumes, etc.). For the sake of continuity, I am keeping to one set of representative dolls throughout. For the Batman series I chose the "Nolanverse" representations because I thought it would be hilarious to put them in their throwback comic book clothes. Please note: The characters here are the property of Marvel and DC comics. This website is for entertainment purposes only. |
* The two comic books featured on this page, Saga of the Swamp Thing no. 19 and Marvel Team-up no. 91 were my introductions to both of the main series featured on this site, so they occupy a special place in my heart. |
